FAQ

Q1. What is the benefit of being on the Registry?

A.  The Registry allows customers to locate qualified and verified in-home care providers in their county of residence.

It provides an opportunity for providers to find employment or market their services.

The Registry provides the same opportunities to provider agencies as it does individuals.

Q2. Is the Registry mandatory?

A.  At this time, the Registry is voluntary for any in-home provider or agencies that meet the guidelines of the Registry eligibility.

Q3. Is there a fee to be included on the Registry?

A.  The initial registration fee is $10 and the annual renewal is $5.  Registry fees can be paid online or by check to the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services.

Q4. What are the requirements to be on the Registry?

a. 18 years of age or older
b. CPR Certification
c. WV Criminal Background Check or if previously lived out of West Virginia in the last five years a background check from that state is required
d. West Virginia Abuse Registry Check
e. Permanent address (and previous address if residence in West Virginia is twelve months or less)
f. First Aid Certification

Q5. May I remove myself from the Registry?

A.  A provider agency can remove themselves from the Registry by calling the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services' toll-free number at 1-877-987-3646 or direct at 1-304-558-3317, or by going online to the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services Provider Reporting Continuing Certification application.  You can also temporarily remove yourself and then return to the Registry within the same year

 Q6. Can a customer receive my direct contact information?

A.  Direct contact with a provider is dependent on the provider being independent of any Provider Agency.  An independent provider can have contact information listed.  If a provider is employed by an Agency, then the Agency Contact Information is available.

Q8. Can I make changes to my Registry information?

A.  Yes.  You can go online to the Bureau of Senior Services Provider Reporting Continuing Certification application or call the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services at 1-877-987-3646 or 1-304-558-3317 and make updates to your information, add new training, education, or other changes.

Q9. What is necessary for me to renew my registration after the first year?

A.  Additional training is required to be verified.

Q10. How do I obtain a Criminal Investigation Background Check?

A.  The West Virginia State Police has the responsibility for Criminal Investigation Background Checks. The State Police has contracted with Morpho Trust to provide this service. To obtain your background check, contact Morpho Trust at:

Q11. How do I obtain a Central Abuse Registry Check?

A.  The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (WV DHHR) maintains a Central Abuse Registry that contains complaints filed or convictions of an individual for perpetrating abuse. You can obtain information regarding this check by going to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources website: www.wvdhhr.org/bcf/provider_resources/. The information is on the left column and is printed in red: "Request and APS/CPS Background Check." The form number is BCF-PSRC6/2005. Download the form at the bottom of the page and follow the instructions.

Q12. How do I obtain training to meet the Registry requirements?

A: The training to meet the requirements for inclusion on the registry and to maintain current training maybe available from various sources:
